According to figures published by the HSE, 60 people working in haulage and distribution were killed last year and another 23,000 suffered injury severe enough to keep them off work for three or more days. The HSE says the deaths were caused by four kinds of accident – most often during loading, unloading and maintenance work. These include falls from vehicles with most causing injury being from a height of only two metres or less. Falls in the road haulage industry caused 299 major injuries in the 2006/07 work year including one fatality. Over two thirds of these falls were from vehicles.

Fortunately, if you’ve been looking for portable safety staging then Grantham Fabrications has a range of Modular Platforms specifically designed to address problems associated with vehicle maintenance, loading and unloading. Our range of mobile platforms for loading and unloading flatbed lorries, trucks and pickups provide a safe means of accessing the back of any trailer. They are available either as single platform (5ft to 40ft) or as a pair of half size platforms which can be securely interlocked. Interlock platforms are fitted with locking end gates for closure when being used separately and can be configured to surround a trailer to provide level access.

Developed in conjunction with HSE, our platforms are stable and completely mobile and feature locking gates & castors as standard. Castors can be nylon, rubber, pneumatic or punctureless according to SWL requirements. There are 45 degree angled steps at one end of each platform allowing the operator to descend safely while facing forward.
